We are heartbroken by the stories we are hearing from Miami-based artists on the impact of COVID-19, which has caused the closing of exhibitions, galleries and lay-offs in the cultural community and beyond.
Visual artists who live in Miami-Dade County can request up to $500 to compensate for lost income due to specific, scheduled employment (whether in the cultural sector or not) or a professional artistic opportunity cancelled because of COVID-19.
Our founder Ellie Schneiderman saw Oolite Arts as a resource for visual artists, a place that would “help artists help themselves.” The fund is the latest expression of that mission. We are starting with $25,000 in seed funding, by repurposing funds saved from canceled Oolite Arts programming that we are now putting back into local artists and the economy.
How to Apply
Visual artists who live in Miami-Dade County can now request funds to compensate for the cancellation of specific, scheduled employment (whether in the cultural sector or not) or a professional artistic opportunity, including commissions and exhibitions.
The funding will be distributed on a rolling basis, with applications accepted through April 16, 2020.
